Advantages of Stamped Concrete vs. Patio Pavers

For many, their homes are their largest investment. To add beauty and maintain property value, many homeowners choose to add a patio, pool deck, or walkway to their landscaping, or refurbish existing patios and driveway. Deciding on the easiest, most cost-effective way to do this poses a few questions.

Patio pavers do have their benefits, but keep in mind that this method is very time consuming and labor intensive work as each individual paver must be laid one at a time. Stamped concrete, on the other hand, is poured in a single slab and stamped as it dries.

With pavers, one is usually limited on colors and designs. Plus, pavers are priced at a per piece cost, which could get quite expensive if a large area is to be paved. Because of the labor involved, most contractors charge a rather hefty fee for this method of hardscape. On the other hand, the colors, patterns and designs for stamped concrete are practically limitless. If you want a natural stone or brick look, this is easily achieved by stamping. In most cases, the stamped concrete is completed in a day or two with minimal manpower.

Another benefit of stamped concrete is because its poured all in a single slab, you don’t have the issue of weeds growing up as they tend to do between the patio pavers. Pavers also are prone to settling or shifting in areas, causing an uneven surface that could lead to tripping and falling. Once poured and stamped, the concrete is also sealed; pavers are not unless you add that to the cost and labor by purchasing and applying a separate sealant.

While using patio pavers can be a do-it-yourself project, concrete stamping is not recommended for a weekend-type project, needing instead someone experienced in the process for the best results. Choose a reputable, knowledgeable contractor (like Concrete Designs) who will work with you to achieve exactly the look you desire at a reasonable price that will last for many years to come. Many happy homeowners agree that there are many advantages of using stamped concrete over patio pavers.
